According to TCD and The Independant, the UK and Irish higher education sector contributes £84 billion to the UK and Irish economy each year and employs over 530,000 people. With such a large workforce, comes a large need for an efficient health and safety system in place.
The HSE reported recently, that over 1.2 million suffer a work-related illness and over 600’000 workers sustain an injury at work. It comes as a surprise that education ranks quite high on the list of incidents and illnesses by industry. See below for a chart of the average annual estimated rate of self-reported work-related illness and non-fatal injury by industry.
Effective Software is currently working with several higher education institutes in the UK and Ireland to improve their overall health and safety procedures. Our customers are benefiting from using our safety software through the creation of a zero harm safety culture, allowing greater access to safety data across an organisation, save administration time on low value activities and reduced management costs including administration costs, lost time spent, insurance premiums and solicitor’s fees.
Alastair Leadbetter, Health and Safety Manager at Fife College was given the task to find a health and safety software solution. Fife College caters for 26,000 students spread over a large geographical area. With all that in mind Alastair, the Health and Safety Manager for the college was in need of a safety management software that was robust and scalable enough to meet demanding standards and requirements. Alastair, identified our system as a huge benefit to Fife College’s health and safety needs and highlighted the following key areas:
- It was a system that was easy to use, one that captures information in real time, can track trends before they become an incident;
- Accurately report on all areas of health & safety without having to spend days generating reports that are out of date by the time the report is complete;
- Total buy in by staff;
- Eliminated paperwork entirely;
"It has been truly uplifting to deal with an organisation that has the customer at the centre of how they run their business”.
