Take 10 with our marketing manager Dave Rowland

We took 10 minutes to learn more about our Marketing Manager and Cub Scout of the Year, Dave Rowland.

1. What was your journey in getting to your current role in marketing?

Five very enjoyable years studying marketing in DIT lead me to my first marketing role for a catering supplies company called Hugh Jordan & Co. I spent 6 great years there looking after the marketing function, learnt an awful lot very quickly and met some amazing and interesting characters. I then got the urge to feed the travel bug, so packed my bags and went travelling around South America. Once I got home to Dublin, I had the chance to meet Darragh and Billy (founders of Effective Software) and was delighted to join the Effective team. I’m here just over 2 years now and proud to be heading up the growing marketing team.

2. How would your fellow employees describe you in one sentence?

Tough question, I’ve been branded a few things in Effective. Suppose I’m like a dog with a bone. Love taking on new projects and not letting go until they're finished, but mainly because I can be a stubborn so and so!

3. What did you want to be when you grew up and why?

I’m not sure really. I came to terms very quickly that I was never going to be a professional footballer. Suppose I wanted to be a business man, didn’t know what that was. Owning a briefcase was particularly fascinating!

4. What do you find most interesting about working in the SaaS industry?

It’s an interesting space to be working in especially as we’re based in Dublin where so many of the worlds SaaS giants are located. The most interesting aspect for me is the ability to connect with and partner with some huge global companies.

5. What song best describes your work ethic?

Depeche Mode, just can’t get enough. I’m a divil for punishment!

6. As a keen traveller of the world, where is the weirdest place you’ve ever ended up and where would you still like to get to?

Weirdest place I’ve ended up was the under carriage of a bus in Vietnam. Long story. We were told to jump in there while a few locals were threatening the bus driver with knives. Never a dull moment! Too many places that I would still like to go. Japan is definitely top of the hitlist.

7. Tell us something about yourself few people know.

I was 1996 Cub of the Year in Boy Scouts. Terribly proud moment. Some say it was because my sister was one of the leaders, I beg to differ!

8. As a master of coming up with hypothetical company names, what would you name your boat if you had one?

Seas the day! Also one of my favourite Damien Dempsey songs.

9. You’re on death row, what would your last meal be?

I’m a simple man, pack of sausages, slice pan and 2 litre of milk.

10. On a scale of 1-10, how lucky are you and why?

I’ll go with 9, healthy (somewhat) and happy. What more can you ask for!
